Sylvia Xiao
Artist-in-Residence
March 28-April 5, 2022

From the Artist:

I'm currently exploring my inner world. Within this journey, I discovered understandings of emotional intelligence from the scratch. I'd like to
share my process, and show where I am right now.

I have some chats and discussions and journals along the journey, including diaries since I was 13, and the most current conversations with others about my inner world.

I'd like to clarify concepts, identify the sources (causes and effects) of what was happening, and potentially speak for/provide resonance/provide potential solutions for people who grew up in similar family patterns.

The work might include storytelling, photo or video shootings, or arrangement of documents or installation.

Sylvia Xiao is a Chinese industrial designer and artist. She attended ArtCenter College of Design and earned a B.S. in Product Design in 2021. Upon graduation, she was awarded an Honor's Term by ArtCenter, for her to take classes and use the facilities of school for three months for free to develop her projects. During the Honor's Term, she created her project Spaception Experiences Series, which consists of four experiences to hack into people's perceptions about narrative, objects, surroundings and space. Sylvia uses art and design as a way to find insights and discover different faces of the world.
