Automata’s Tapetail Experimental Sound is excited to present Georgia E. Bell’s multisensory composition Can You Smell the Future? Smell your way into a sonic reverie: the concert will feature a perfume (created for this piece by the composer) and its isolated components.
Perfume, like music, is a time-based medium. The formula of a fragrance and its synergy with the body chemistry of the wearer inform the way it unfolds and develops. The same is true of this structured improvisation: the players swirl together with the score to create a unique elixir. A quartet of improvisors–Lauren Elizabeth Baba, William Roper, Joshua Gerowitz, and Casey Butler–perform this evening-length set.
About the Artist
Georgia E. Bell is an American musician and artist in Los Angeles. Bell’s work blurs the lines between disciplines while inviting audiences and performers to engage in new ways. She has performed and presented work at arts venues across disciplines including West Oakland Sound Series, Indexical, the wulf, Clockshop, The Dog Star Festival, High Desert Soundings, Niche Gallery at Other Places Art Fair, Open Gate Theater, Coaxial Arts Foundation, Brigham Young University, and The Missouri Experimental Sonic Arts Festival. Bell is cofounder and cohost of L.A. salon SatanNotSatan, a regular event where artists and musicians have been gathering and engaging in creative discourse since 2014.
Tapetail is Automata’s new experimental sound series, launched in October 2022.
Tapetail presents live events and sound installations featuring the work of experimental sound artists.
We are currently looking to present shows and installations that deal with "liveness" where something about the experience is best presented live, whether through improvisation, special acoustic treatment or audience experience. There’s been a lot of great art happening in the virtual and digital world so now we’re turning our focus back towards bringing people together for sound experiences that are best experienced in a live setting.
