AUTOMATA' s Experimental Sound series TAPETAIL presents: Universal Translator with Spacepants
How do we share our ideas with everyone involved in our future cities? What conversations can we have in communion with our fellow more-than-human dwellers and builders around our collective habitation?
Join SpacePants in an exploratory interactive performance with a video installation by Jennifer Bewerse as we discover different pathways for understanding those around us. We can only plan for the future we want if we imagine that future in the first place!
Saturday, May 10th, 2026
3 presentations; 7:30pm, 8:00pm, 8:30pm
*each performance lasts 30 minutes
About the Artists
SpacePants is a virtuosic viola/voice duo who wears space pants and is guided by a TUBE from outer space. The TUBE is an InterGalacticDIYDadaist performance artist animated by a group of RAD Aliens in the Andromeda Galaxy. At the command of the TUBE, SpacePants brings their own and others’ works of art to life here on Earth.
Jennifer Bewerse sees herself as a collagist where her work is to collect and arrange the elements of each piece. Her compositions are built from sounds she wants to hear using simple mechanics that yield complex results. Jennifer's work has been performed at Craft in America: Sunday Sound Streams, Nadia Sirota's Living Music: Pirate Radio Edition, and the Music from Salem Cello Seminar. Recently, she was commissioned by Aperture Duo to write a new work for livestreaming musicians. In 2020, Jennifer began a series of Postal Pieces. The project currently includes 16 pieces written for and inspired by their dedicatees.
Tapetail is Automata’s new experimental sound series, launched in October 2022.
Tapetail presents live events and sound installations featuring the work of experimental sound artists.
We are currently looking to present shows and installations that deal with "liveness" where something about the experience is best presented live, whether through improvisation, special acoustic treatment or audience experience. There’s been a lot of great art happening in the virtual and digital world so now we’re turning our focus back towards bringing people together for sound experiences that are best experienced in a live setting.
Automata’s Tapetail series
is curated by Cassia Streb.
