THADEUS FRAZIER REED:
ENTROPHIES
Tuesday, June 2, 8pm
Automata’s Tapetail Experimental Sound series presents Thadeus Frazier Reed’s ENTROPHIES. For the June 2 performance, Thadeus will be sharing new sounds, instruments, and processes developed over the last few years in an investigation of varying levels of spectral complexity. Including jivari; an electroacoustic, vibrating string instrument, mechanun; a robotic electroacoustic zither, and starfield; a collection of networked synthesizers that will be used to reflect and resynthesize the spectra of the live performance throughout the evening. Also gongs, loops, analog tape, pendulum strummed guitars, and whale songs.
About the Artist
Thadeus Frazier-Reed is a composer, instrument designer, and creative technologist exploring the effects of movement, dynamic and stochastic processes, error, and instrument form and material on sound creation. He is interested in the ways in which the time, place, and audience change the context and content of a composition and uses these variables to explore emergent behavior of complex systems with simple rules. He views each new instrument design as an opportunity to discover the unique voice of that instrument.
Thadeus is currently the creative technologist/artist in residence at X, the Moonshot Factory.

Tapetail is Automata’s new experimental sound series, launched in October 2022.
Tapetail presents live events and sound installations featuring the work of experimental sound artists.
We are currently looking to present shows and installations that deal with "liveness" where something about the experience is best presented live, whether through improvisation, special acoustic treatment or audience experience. There’s been a lot of great art happening in the virtual and digital world so now we’re turning our focus back towards bringing people together for sound experiences that are best experienced in a live setting.
